The Easiest Podcast Kit For Amazing Sound

Table of Contents

This is the gear I use for the Indie Acquisitions podcast today.

The high-end audio world is a deep rabbit hole to go down. My sunk hours of research are your gain. Below is everything you need to make amazing sounding in-person interviews.

It doesn't have to be complicated.

Zoom H4N PRO Digital Multitrack Recorder

This is the best for in person interviews. I try to always record with the recorder plugged in, but I do bring spare batteries just in case. I would hate to have the recorder die in the middle of an interview and miss something. There is an upgraded Zoom H6 if you want the option to have on 3 or 4 people.

ATR2100 Mic

The Honda Civic of microphones. A very solid option for $100.

Shure MV7 Mic

The best USB mic around. It is the one I use at home now. A great deal at $250.

On Stage Foam Ball-Type Mic Windscreen, Black

The SM58 comes with a built in windscreen, but this extra one helps minimize the clicks and pops a mic can pick up.

Shure X2U XLR-to-USB Signal Adapter

This little device lets me connect the SM58 microphone or really any XLR microphone to a computer via USB. I looked at picking up another USB microphone (like the uber popular ATR2100), but there is no reason to have more devices than I need. This also allows me to have a consistent sound for recording intros and remote interviews. Great little device.

Descript

The easiest way to edit podcast and videos.

Webflow

The best way to build a beautiful website today. Don’t get bogged down messing around with Wordpress. Webflow is way easier and it integrates nicely with mailchimp (newsletters), google analytics, and is already setup for the best SEO around.

Libsyn

I just landed my first sponsor so I decided to upgrade my podcast hosting to Libsyn. It has better stats and more versatility. From what I can tell all the big podcasters use Libsyn, but if you are just getting started I would just use Squarespace as your host.

Zoom or Riverside

For remote interviews we mostly use Riverside. Zoom is more stable so we still use it occasionally. I recommend starting with Zoom.

HIKPRO: Ultra Lightweight Hiking Daypack

This is my all time favorite lightweight backpack. It is incredibly light and fits a surprising amount of stuff. I carry all my equipment in 3 shoe bags and toss them in this backpack to bike over to the recording location of the day.

I hope that helps. Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. Happy podcasting!!
